Simon Crawford —

It's been a week of ins and outs in the Middle Syndicate. We have wrapped up our Innovators inspired mahi with the final round of waka, planes, kaleidoscopes and Da Vinci's helicopters (this weeks cover photo) designing and building.

We have welcomed Zach to our space, moving here all the way from the West Coast.

Brodie, our awesome student kaiako, completed his final observation day this past week. But no need to worry, as he'll be back in Term 3 to undertake the next stage of his teaching development.

Mrs L departed for Adelaide with the Canterbury Korfball teams, ready to battle the best that Australia have to offer. She will be back in class on Wednesday, as I know she didn't want to miss out on our special guests. (Keep reading to find out more!) Go Canterbury!

Wiki Tuawhitu (Week 7) mahi:

In MNP, our Year 4's are studying the learning areas of Mass and Volume, whilst the Year 5's refine their understanding of Time.

Ākonga also move on from their practice narrative to selecting the North Canterbury artwork that inspires the creative writing within, to craft their final narrative story that will then be used in the up coming 'story telling/speech' competition.

Now that our Innovators unit is complete, our focus switches to Matariki, as we research the cluster itself, understand how the stars supported seafaring navigation across history and even learn the basics of celestial navigation (with a minor home challenge - on a cloudless evening).

Our awesome Sports Coaches return, eager to teach safe rugby skills to our class, and of course the real highlight of the week, The NZ Opera are here on Wenerei (Wednesday) morning performing The Elixir of Love.

Lego: As the Seniors move into their Lego League season, the team will be doing some fundraising and what better than a “Lego Fun Day!” House of Bricks will visit the school with Rachel de Vries who was a contestant from LEGO Masters NZ.

Children will have the opportunity to take part in sessions with Rachel to make their own creations using lots of different types of Lego. The event will be on Wednesday June 19th (Week 8) with two sessions. A Y0-3 morning session and then Y4-8 middle block session.

The cost is $5.20 per child and tickets can be bought via Kindo.

Have a wonderful weekend

Ngā mihi
