Peka Peka - Week rima

Sally Patterson —

Crazy weather changes, the letter Ff, koru designs, ordering in Maths, our first non-uniform day… What a week we have had!

Starting the week off warm we learnt about the letter Ff in literacy and practised some more fine motor skills by cutting out small pieces of paper and creating our very own rainbow fish. We have been learning a lot about heart words, which are words we need to learn by heart. Please help us learn these by practising at home! These have been uploaded onto Seesaw for you to see which words are for your child to learn.

We continued learning about ordering in Maths, ordering the size of a family of bears, and then beginning to learn about ordering and sequencing length, and time using the words first, second, third etc.

We had so much fun in PE, learning about balance, coordination, locomotor skills and spatial awareness. Once the weather flipped on us and poured down with rain we learnt how to draw koru designs, which is how we represented our family in inquiry- this was uaua! (Our te reo word of the week, this means tricky).

We also had our first non-uniform day! Thank you to all whanau who donated money for this. The money raised will be going to a School up north in Wairoa, that has been severely affected by cyclone Gabrielle.

Next week (week rima 5) will be very much the same as this week (hopefully with a little less rain!). However, we are very excited to be starting our buddy system with the fantastic Year 8 students and their incredible kaiako Mrs Hornblow and Mrs Sage. Some fun things our ākonga will be doing include Art, Music, Gardening, Sport-with a focus on football skills, some Te reo, and more! The plan for this weekly lesson will be to intentionally teach the 4 POU Sustainable Development Goals, Digital technology, Experiential Learning and Te Ao Māori. This will be run on Friday during the middle block.

Next Friday- union meeting for our kaiako. It is encouraged that you pick up your child at lunchtime so as many of our kaiako can attend this meeting as possible. There will be an adjusted afternoon programme run for the tamariki who will remain at kura.

Some reminders:

  • 2:45 pm pick-ups on Fridays

  • Drink bottles each day

  • Pōtae (hat) are compulsory in Term 1 and 2.

  • Please have shoes that your ākonga can put on independently.

  • We have a no-toy policy at kura

  • Our library day is Monday

  • We use poetry books on Friday, they go home over the weekend for you to read with your ākonga but need to be returned on Monday.

Have a fantastic weekend, best of luck to those ākonga that are competing in the Weetbix triathlon on Sunday.

Ngā mihi nui,

Sally, Penny, Juanita, Alison and Ella.
