Y2/3 Swimming: Watching the excitement, effort and progress our tamariki have made each day as they step into the pool has been fantastic. They try their very best even when they are nervous or unsure. Everyone is giving it a go and listening hard to their teachers to make the most of their time together, learning new and vital skills. Ka pai!
Y2/3 ākonga are swimming next week also, please remember;
*Swimming bag - this needs to be big enough to hold your child's uniform while they are swimming. Fabric shopping bags are a good size for everything!
*Togs - Check in with your child to see if their togs still fit, growth spurts happen without us even realising. If you want your child to have dry togs each day remind them to bring them home to air out.
*Towel
*Goggles- Good idea to name these as they are one of the most common items left behind at the pool or school.
*Extra items of kai - We have seen some hungry, tired tamariki this week. Working so hard to learn a new skill and using up so much energy can leave some children hungry for a snack late afternoon.
*Name your child's items - As many clothing items go missing, please ensure that all things are named!
Parents are welcome to come and watch their child swim, but only parents who have been police-checked can help in the changing rooms. Please email your child’s homeroom teacher with regards to timings.
News from the Nest: The "nesties" have been working very hard this week to learn the routines and expectations of their new space. The ākonga were introduced to their new Maths teacher Miss Matthews and have started their new MNP routine.
In Literacy time, the nesties have been taught to complete “bus stops” and are ready to join the Y2/3 with this routine next week. Very exciting! The ākonga have also been introduced to the Science of Writing lesson structure and have done a fabulous job learning this. The Y1s will continue to add routines for the next week until fully integrated into ALS. A massive well done to all the nesties and their first week in Rakahuri and Waikuku!
Pāngarau: Please note due to the transition of Y1s and Y3s, the team have had to change Maths groups and your child may have a different kaiako. The team have tried to maintain consistency where they can. Miss Matthews will be taking the Y1s, W.Amanda and Mrs A will remain the Y2 teachers and the Y3s will be split between Miss Taylor and Mrs Porritt.
Year 3 students have been doing a fantastic job of learning how to estimate and weigh items as small as a pencil to as big as a Jumbo Jet. Great idea to get your tamariki to have a look at the weight of items in your pantry, and a sneak peek at the bathroom scales. Knowing the difference between analogue and digital is a great skill to have.
No hot kai: Please note there is no hot kai in Rakahuri and Waikuku due to swimming. Thank you for your kind understanding.
Newsletter Art: This weeks newsletter art is brought to you by the WHOLE ALS! It was created on "transition day". It shows all Y1, Y2 and Y3 ākonga in the Rakahuri and Waikuku waka. This is also representative of the ALS whakataukī - He waka eke noa - We are in this together. And it certainly is great to have the new Y1s in the waka!
Term 2 Reminders:
Lost property: Please pop in and look through the lost property if you are missing fleeces, shoes, socks, etc. Please ensure all items are named! In addition since swimming commenced, our collection of undies is growing too!
Pātara wai: Please ensure your child has a drink bottle at kura.
Whare pukapuka: Library Day is Friday.
