Juanita Kneale —

This week we say goodbye to some of our Year 1’s who are transitioning to Rakahuri/Waikuku. We will miss you but look forward to still seeing you in the playground. Good luck for this new chapter in your learning journey. We know the team next door is super excited for your arrival!

Inquiry: What an exciting start to our inquiry topic with a visit from our very own world famous You-Tuber Morne Wium. A massive thank you to Amber’s dad for bringing in fossils and sharing your knowledge of dinosaurs and fossils with us. It has inspired lots of learning conversations and questions. We are excited to learn more about extinction and endangered species local to our area and display our fossil art.

MNP: We have been looking at the concept of fewer/less and will now be moving on to forwards, backwards counting and number order. You can help at home by continuing to practise number formation to 10 and asking questions like which number comes before/is one less or after/one more?

Literacy: Structured Literacy rotations resume after testing. We continue to work on reading and writing our letters/sounds with a focus on phonemic awareness activities. Our letter of the week will be L. What things can you find at home that start with this sound? Send your kaiako (teacher) a picture to share!

Quick reminders:

Mane (Monday): King’s Birthday long weekend.

Library books: Paraire (Friday) is the day to return pukapuka (books). Friday is also poetry day.

Hot kai (hot food): Children can bring food wrapped in tinfoil with their name clearly on it for lunch. This is Monday - Thursday only, please.

Lost Property: We have a large pile of lost property after swimming. Please come and check and remember to name all your child's belongings for kura (school).

Ngā mihi nui,

Penny, Juanita, Ella, Alison, Lynda, Ruth, and Sally
