Kiva focus: We say no to bullying
DDL: We hoped everyone enjoyed the special "Bunch of Kindness" the children made last week. This was part of our DDL: giving and showing appreciation. It was wonderful to hear about how the flowers had made so many people smile. And the ākonga loved being the ones to give the gift! Watch this space for more surprises as the term continues!
Korfball training: The team had the first of two sessions this week. Korfball in schools is growing fast. Initially, it was a Dutch game that spread worldwide, with children loving the team element of the game. Korfball is one of the most inclusive team games and the world’s only mixed-team sport. The students play inside or outside using adapted baskets to allow smaller Tamariki to be successful in scoring. The second session is on Friday 8th.
Dispositions and Values: Social and Emotional Learning via Kiva: As we continue to unravel how to be assertive, confident and tolerant of others, we examine ways other schools worldwide ensure their tamariki always feel safe at their kura. KiVa’s teaching and learning program focuses on developing young people to become confident and resilient participants in a range of life contexts, emphasising self-management, inclusion, respect and empathy.
Pānui & Tuhituhi (Reading and Writing): The junior team runs a data proven literacy program that accelerates learners' understanding of how letter-sound relationships work with the written word. Tamariki can confidently decode and encode words to fully comprehend how text is formed before completing the program. When they reach the next stage of their literacy learning, each child has the tools to use a wide variety of vocabulary and sentences appropriate to write expressively in many different forms (stories, poems, reports)
Kapa Haka: All Y3 students have this amazing opportunity to attend every Wednesday afternoon.
MNP: The newsletter photo shows Miss Taylor's Y2s getting stuck into some hands on learning in with MNP. As you can see they are very much enjoying learning about volume and capacity. Look at how engrossed they are!
Term 4 Reminders:
Hats: This is a reminder that the sun this term is high in the sky, especially at lunchtime when the children are outside playing for a substantial amount of time. The School hats protect their head, face and neck and are a valued part of our Kura. Please make sure your child has a named pōtae.
Pātara wai: Please ensure your child has a named drink bottle at kura and encourage them to bring it inside to take regular drinks to stay hydrated and refreshed for learning.
