Meet our school dog - Betty

Jared Kelly, Principal —

Only our fully trained and certified "school dogs" are allowed into the school grounds at any time.

Betty is a three-year-old Miniature Schnauzer, she loves walking around the school and saying hello to all our tamariki. Betty visits our learning communities during the day and can often be found on dog patrol at morning tea and lunchtime.

Betty is able to come to school as she has undertaken a lengthy training course and certification programme. The most important part of the course was to ensure that Betty is safe around children, will not steal or beg for food and stays close to her handler (Mrs Mathwin).

Betty's assessment was carried out here at school by an accredited and well-respected training school based in North Canterbury. She passed with flying colours!

Our school policy around dogs has not changed. Dogs are not permitted on our school grounds. This is purely for the safety and wellbeing of all our tamariki. The only dogs that are permitted on school grounds are those who have become certified school dogs.
