From the Principals' desk...

Jared Kelly, Principal —

A busy Term draws to a close and we look forward to Term 3 - with "navigating our journey" our inquiry theme, changes in staffing, and the completion of our building projects to look forward to!

Firstly, a HUGE thank you to everyone who came along and supported our Matariki night last night!  It was fantastic to see so many of you here enjoying the activities, learning about the ALS legends and catching up with other parents too.

Thank you also to the staff and parents who helped bring it all together - without the time and effort you put in these events just wouldn't happen.

A special thank you to our colleague Danna Robson from Kaiapoi High School for supporting us and for bringing along a group of senior students to help out on the night.  It is very much appreciated.

There are photos from the night included in the newsletter.  Also, the photos from our photo booth are up on the school Facebook page now as well (our Facebook page is only for parents of children currently at our school, and new members are only added if the membership questions have been answered).

Looking ahead to next Term, I am very pleased to share the news that Dan Perriam will be joining our teaching staff for Term 3 and 4 in the New Entrant team in Peka Peka.  Due to our ever-increasing roll, Dan will be taking on a homegroup and joining Sally, Penny and Amanda for the rest of the year.

You can find a list of all of our staff - including photo's and email contact information - here: http://www.pegasusbay.school.nz/our-staff

You may have noticed building work going on around school this Term and we are looking forward to our first projects being completed by the end of the holidays.  This includes:

  • creating access to the toilets for our Junior, Middle and Senior ALS teams in the event of a lockdown;
  • opening up our radio station with double doors so the space can be used as a performance space;
  • creating a new Principals office.  That's right, I will be moving to a new space which will free up my current office so it can be used for meetings and small group work with children.

As always, I will still be available should you need to catch up with me - just keep in mind that if you have concerns about your child’s happiness or learning you need to approach their home group teacher first. If you feel your concerns are not addressed, your next contact should be with the ALS Leader.

We will be "navigating the journey" next Term, and the ALS teams will share more about what that means for their spaces in the next newsletter.

Enjoy the holidays, make memories and keep each other safe!  We look forward to seeing everyone back at school refreshed and ready to go on Monday 26 July.
