Rakahuri and Waikuku Pānui
Kupu o te Wiki: Hāmoa (Samoa)
Disposition of the week: Creator – being future focused.
Welcome/goodbye: A big welcome to Tilly who has joined us from Wales! We're also very sad to say goodbye to Brextyn who is leaving us, good luck at your new kura!
Swimming: Our timetable will look quite different for next week as we are going swimming each day. The Waiswim program has changed from previous years to focus more on water safety and the feedback from other year groups who have been already this term has been very positive. Tamariki are expected to be able to get changed independently before and after swimming in a timely manner and keep track of their own belongings. Please practice this at home as getting out of wet swimwear can be quite tricky!
Whānau are welcome to come and watch their child from the side of the pool, but we can only let those parents who have already been police vetted into the changing rooms to help get the children changed. Please email your homeroom teacher for timings.
Please note there will be no hot food during swimming in weeks 5&6.
Children will need:
*Swimming bag - this needs to be big enough to hold your child's uniform while they are swimming. Fabric shopping bags are a good size for everything!
*Togs
*Towel
*Goggles
*Extra items of kai
As many clothing items do go missing please ensure that all items are named!
Kaupapa (Inquiry): In our inquiry lessons over the next couple of weeks we are moving on to look at the work of Peter Lynn. Peter Lynn is a New Zealand kitemaker, engineer, and inventor. He is notable for his construction of the world's largest kites, giant inflatable display kites, the popularisation of kite buggying, and contributions to the development of power kiting and kitesurfing. This will link to our Matariki display where tamariki will each design their own kite artwork for the whānau evening in week 9.
Te Reo Māori: We have been learning the kupu (words) for the contents of our pōaka kai (lunchbox). Tamariki have completed a Seesaw activity matching the kupu to the picture. Have a look out for the post and see if your tamaiti (child) can teach you a few!
Poetry Telling Competition: We have already had a few tamaiti who have been practicing a poem and sharing it with their classmates this week, and one child who has written their own at home! The poetry competition is in week 10, so there is still plenty of time to choose a poem and get practicing.
Kura closed: There is a teacher-only day on Friday 31st May and King’s Birthday on 3rd June, so there will be no kura for the children on these days.
Term 2 Reminders:
Lost Property: Please check the overflowing ‘lost property box’ for items that belong to your tamariki—especially now that the mornings are getting extremely chilly. Check for misplaced polar fleeces, as there are plenty of them hiding in the box. Please name all items (including lunchboxes and drink bottles) so they can be returned to the rightful owner.
Drink Bottles: Please ensure your tamariki has a named, freshly filled drink bottle at school daily.
Library books: our library day is Friday. Please return books to the blue box in each ALS.
Hot food: There will be NO hot food during swimming (weeks 5&6).
Noho ora mai,
