Threadworms/pinworms

Corinda Thompson —

Information on threadworms.

Anyone can be infected by threadworms, but they're most common in tamariki of school age. Threadworms only live in people, so you can't get them from pets or other animals.

Threadworms can be prevented by good hygiene and proper hand washing and are also easily treatable.

To help stop the spread of threadworms we ask that you medicate your child immediately and keep them away from school for 24hrs after the medication has been given.

Some key facts:

  • Worms spread easily and the best way to prevent them is through proper hand washing and hygiene.

  • If your child has worms, they can be treated by medication from your pharmacy.

  • Your whole family has to be treated with the worm medication at the same time if your tamariki has worms.

  • See your doctor if your child is under two years old, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
