Waikuku Bike Group-the first one!

Sally Patterson —

We have had great buy-in with the Waikuku Bike Route, with the tamariki eagerly expressing their experience with me at lunchtime on Monday. A suggestion to write about this experience was met with enthusiasm by Hazel O'Steen and Ava Leech who crafted this piece of writing during lunchtime to share with our community in order to motivate and inspire others.

When we bike to school we can hear the waves crashing in the distance, and the birds cheeping, greeting the day. We can feel the sun shining on our faces, helping us fully wake up for the day ahead. We like the feeling of the handlebars as we skid around the corners trying to keep up with the group. We take deep breaths as we push harder on the pedals against the sandy track, smelling everything around us. Brown pine needles rotting on the track, while baby pine trees sprouting up, reminding us of Christmas. As we bike past the broom bushes in flower, raspberry bombs go off in our noses.

We love biking to school because we get to meet up with our friends, and it is good for the environment because there will be fewer cars on the road. But the best thing is having some fitness in the morning as it wakes us up and gets us ready for learning.

It's the best start to the day, you should join us!

If you would like to join our Waikuku biking crew you need to email Sally at sallypatterson@pegasusbay.school.nz to ensure we have accurate rolls for the bus, and you must commit every Monday for the remainder of the term. Children under the age of 10 must have a parent go with them.
