Anna Sage —

We have had such a productive week and we would like to congratulate our students who attended Canterbury Athletics. You represented our school with pride and did your absolute best, well done.

Inquiry: We have had some amazing projects continue to develop from our inquiries and we are super excited to share some photos of these below in our newsletter. This week we had a group of lads travel to Lyttleton to design a carving for our Kura. A huge thank you to Emma, for providing transport.

We also have a group who are collecting non-perishable food items for the Salvation Army as this can be a very hard time of the year for some families. We ask that each child brings in a non-perishable food item to add to the collection by the end of week 8 please.

Writing: We have been busy writing our explanation essays about our inquiry process. These are due the end of this week, and they will be an exciting read for you to see your child's actions throughout their inquiry this term. This work will be uploaded middle of week 9 for you to view.

We have selected the top 8 short stories that will be produced as a film. Planning for this will start end of week 8. Monday of week 9 will be a full day of filming.

Reading: Some students are still reading their novels from the beginning of the term, we suggest you talk with your child about this, as we are encouraging many of these students to take their novels home. These need to be finished so they can complete the work for their novels by the end of week 8.

Maths: This week we have started our new unit of graphs and averages. We have started this by understanding averages including Mean, Mode, and Median.

Reminders:

KHS Orientation Day: This is Tuesday, 6th December. Your child needs to be at school by 8:25am to get the bus. They will return back to school by bus before 3pm.

If your child is not attending KHS, they are still expected to attend school as we will continue with our programme.

Leavers Dinner: This is on 6th December at the Brick Mill Cafe. It starts at 6pm and finishes at 9pm. Parents are welcome to come a bit earlier for pick up, around 8:30pm to take photos. This is a smart/tidy dress code event.

Sharing of learning: This will be held in week 9 on Wednesday 14th December 9:30 - 10:30am. We will be sharing our learning from Term 4 alongside Peka Peka.

Prize giving: This will be Friday 9th December (week 8) at 1.30 in the gym. We would love for you to attend as it is a special day for our year 8 leavers.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend,

Ngā mahi nui,

Ali and Anna
