Message from Jamie Gordon, Chair of our School Board

School Board —

Dear Families, Parents and Caregivers

Once again we have reached the end of another successful and busy year. The highlight of the year has to be finally moving into the new base school after a lot of planning and work by many people.  Also, after many years of disagreement with our local ministry around role size, we finally have a Minister of Education who understands the important role that specialist education plays.  The fight is not over, but there is significantly more optimism going into 2025.

On behalf of all of the families with students at Pitau-Allenvale, I once again thank all the staff for the outstanding way they contribute to the care, education and wellbeing of our children. The expertise and empathy they have is second to none. Throughout the year we have had a number of staff leave Pitau-Allenvale for other opportunities and we thank them all for their contribution - many have given amazing service over a long period of time.

I would also like to acknowledge the outstanding contribution Ian Poulter has made during his time as Principal.  His experience and outstanding leadership has enabled Pitau-Allenvale to navigate a period of huge change and development.  Ian has retired after 48 years of service to education and at his farewell last week it was obvious that he is widely respected by colleagues, families and students throughout the South Island.  Thanks for everything you have done Ian.

With Ian's retirement, the Board is excited  to welcome Janine Harrington into the role of Principal in 2025.  Janine is also an experienced principal and brings significant knowledge of  specialist education.  We are fortunate to employ someone of Janine's calibre and look forward to working with her next year.

Finally for those families who are leaving this year, we wish you all the best for the future, knowing that you will always be a part of Pitau-Allenvale. For those returning we look forward to seeing you again next year.

Wishing you all a fun and relaxing festive period.

Kind Regards

Jamie Gordon
