The Benefits of Cooking Lessons: Empowering Tamariki with Essential Life Skills
This term, as part of the Technology programme, the students from Putahi Seniors have been travelling to Cobham Intermediate for Cooking lessons.
Cooking lessons are not just about making delicious food; they also offer a valuable educational experience for children. Our students learn a wide range of skills from these culinary adventures that extend beyond the kitchen.
Many of the skills we learn link to our values.
We show Ora by washing our hands before preparing and eating kai and doing the dishes afterwards, learning about making healthy food choices and how to prepare and make different food that fuel and bodies as well as been delicious!
We show resilience by being brave to try new things and giving things a go. When preparing the food we learn how to follow a recipe, measure the ingredients accurately and use our fine motor skills to chop, stir, pour, spread, mix and of course eat.
We show our uniqueness by talking about what foods we like and don't like and what parts of cooking we enjoy doing and don't enjoy.
We show kindness by listening to our teachers, helping each other and sharing our kai with others.
Children can learn a wide range of skills through cooking lessons. By engaging in hands-on cooking activities, they develop practical life skills while also gaining a deeper understanding of nutrition and healthier food choices.
Look out Master Chefs....here come the students from Putahi!
