A year in the life of Room 14 Tui
What a year 2020 has been for us! We have faced so many new challenges, learning from each other and having a heap of fun along the way!
Student highlights for the year have been participating in sports days, cooking, outings to the city, swimming and digital technology. While changes in alert levels meant that we faced some restrictions to our programme, it didn't change our passion for learning and giving everything our best.
We loved combining with the students from Room 14 Kea for the Wearable Arts Performance, and everyone showed their talent on the stage. We had been learning about "Heroes in our community" so we used this theme to design and create our own superheroes and their costume. We were able to stretch our imagination and creativity, using a variety of materials to make a cape, mask and cuffs. This was a lot of fun and the results were spectacular!
During the year we worked on developing our literacy and numeracy skills, as well as extending our knowledge of telling the time and using money, relating this directly to life skills that will help us become independent. Class topics have included Weather, Heroes and Healthy Relationships. All students have been keen learners and have been involved in a range of activities to stimulate learning.
It has been wonderful to see friendships grow over the year and students learning about empathy, tolerance and compassion as they work together as a team.
Thank you to our wonderful Teacher Assistants, Mel, Megan and Liana who provide us all with so much support throughout our day.
Best wishes to you all for a safe and happy Christmas and New Year with your families and friends.
