Week 4 and we are in the swing of things

Strathern Harrison —

We have been busy at Uru exploring more with outings, Mihi Whakatau and settling our new comers in more.

With being 4 weeks into the term we have loved opening our doors to go out and explore the community. We have been going to gymnastics, Kia Kori, PMP (at base) and into our wider school environment (technology at Cobham and science and Kiwican at Burnside).

Through gymnastics our students have been working very hard learning more about their proprioception in new and structured environments. Ākonga have been encouraged to explore more physically demanding and extending activities in a safe way were they can find success and develop more understanding about the way their body moves and works.

We are yet to experience Kia kori more as some of our new ākonga were enjoying the base playground too much! We have loved the way our learners are settling into the school and becoming Pītau stars!

Last week we had a Mihi Whakatau for our new ākonga and staff to be welcomed to the school site. a few of our Whānau came to participate in the welcoming. We are looking forward to many more friendships being build with our mainstream friends.
