TEC Pango: Overnight Camp at Allenvale School.

Rebekah Carlsen —

For obvious reasons we had to cancel our TEC camp which was at Hanmer Springs. As a safe alternative we had an overnight camp at Allenvale Base School.

The students who attended were Felix, Sophie, Josh, Alvin, Te Hia Hia, Liam and Matty.

All the students helped in setting up the tents. It was obvious that some knew what to do and everyone pitched in (pun intended). We then played some backyard games: Polish horseshoe and cornhole.

Students all sat together to eat their dinner and were happy to sing and dance afterwards. For dessert we played the biscuit challenge. Sitting on the ground, a biscuit is put on a forehead and you need to slide it successfully into your mouth. Heaps of fun! Both Matty and Felix were successful!! After that we had hands behind our backs eating mini donuts swinging from a piece of string. Next it was time to smash our pineata.

For the rest of the evening it was singing, dancing, showering, backyard games before roasting marshmallows over a gas stove.

The final part of the evening was the sparklers. All the students were able to have several. I was particularly proud of both Alvin and Josh who were initially scared of them but both students ended up independently holding them by themselves (on the end of a carrot for health and safety purposes).

I would like to thank Kate and Tracey for helping out and staying over night.

We could not have done this camp without Ed Book. He kindly allowed us to use all his camping gear as well as his backyard games. Everyone enjoyed your positive enthusiastic energy and we appreciate everything you did including sleeping overnight with the lads.

Thanks to Ian for staying with us until well into the evening and cooking our sausages for dinner. It was great to also see Jenny and her daughter coming in to join in the festivities as well as Ingrid.

This overnight camp was a great success thanks to everyone who helped. All the students enjoyed themselves and were pleased that they managed to have an overnight camp after all.
