Putahi go all out for Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori

Kate Sanders —

The students in Putahi had fun and games during Maori language week.

We had a week of activities based around learning more te reo and experiencing some different games, cooking, music and art.

Trish taught the students to make paraoa parai (fried bread). The students enjoyed cooking and tasting the bread and we all agreed it was as yummy as doughnuts!

We read some books in te reo and surprised ourselves with how much we knew already and we all enjoyed playing some new digital games on the ipads to practise our vocabulary. We now know all our colours and also know the words for a range of feelings which we can use throughout the day.

On Friday we were tino manahau (very excited) to have a ride out to Rapaki marae. We looked at the buildings and Kate told stories about the history of the whenua and the marae.
