What does PB4L look like at Pītau-Allenvale?
Positive behaviour for learning is a strategy for helping to support behaviour, encourage achievement and support the well being of ngā tamariki across the whole kura.
Our PB4L approach to increasing the educational outcomes and encouraging positive behaviour from our ākonga involves establishing expectations, enhancing student's mana and making behavioural success understandable and achievable.
The expectations for behaviour are outlined throughout the school in our school-wide behaviour matrix. Have a look at the photo of our matrix at the top of this article.
We can also delve more deeply into how we show our school values in our different learning spaces and playgrounds. Some expectations work for some spaces but not others! For example you can run and use an outside voice in the playground but usually not in the classroom 😄.
Throughout the year we focus on each value term by term, starting with Uniqueness as we get to know new students and staff. Term two is about growing Resilience, term three is a focus on Ora (our physical health and wellbeing) and in term four, we focus on Kindness.
Through a PB4L approach we enhance the self esteem and mana of our students, highlighting and shining light on the positive choices and effort they make. We believe that what we focus on will flourish.
In the last few weeks we have been celebrating how we can occupy ourselves in safe ways that make us feel happy. Everyone is unique and has their own interests. We value our students sharing their interests and what makes them feel happy with us. Check out some photos below of our students enjoying safe and fun activities that they have chosen for themselves.
