Learning Cooking Skills at Tētēkura.
At Tētēkura students are working towards independence by making simple meals.
Tētēkura students have the opportunity to cook an easy meal each week.
So far the Aruhe students have been making devilled sausages and mash, beef chow mein, French toast, egg in a hole, home made hamburger and pita bread pizza. We also make the occasional fruit crumble when we have any left over fruit.
The Tarapeka students have been making pita pizza, nachoes, devilled sausages and chicken chow mein.
Once a term instead of going to the supermarket with our shopping list the Aruhe students look in the fridge, freezer and pantry to see what kind of a balanced meal they are able to make with the ingredient they have on hand.
The students generally will make each recipe for three weeks so that they are able to master it. We post the recipe on Seesaw and challenge students to make the recipe for their whanau at home. Some students who aren't even in the class have made it for their family which is what it's all about.
Keep up the good work team!
