Room 5, Term 2.
Earlier this year we endeavoured to create our own Dark Room space, one in which students could use to chill in and listen to music or work through their more formal sensory programmes.
Due to covid and lots of staff changes, the work has been much slower than anticipated. I am however, very happy to be able to report that now, finally, thanks to lots of hard work and vision from our Teacher Aides especially Leesa, we now have an awesome area that gets used daily!
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Roses Carpets who so generously gave us at a hugely discounted price, a square of bound carpet that has transformed what was a gloomy room into one which is very warm, comfortable and inviting.
Mr Poulter has very kindly shaken the "purse" so we could purchase our amazing fibre optic lights and the money we make from selling scones each week goes into buying all sorts of lighting and sound equipment that add to the experience of spending time in the room.
“Making things” has been the topic we embraced this term starting with ‘Charlie’ our scarecrow who now holds a very prominent position behind Room 13. We have also made paper mache bowls, birdseed bars, kites, mobiles, cooked and grown seedlings to name a few things!
The relaxing of the covid traffic lights meant that we have made good use of the van with several students now being regular attendees of Glenathian farm, playgrounds, shopping malls and the Burwood hydrotherapy pool.
