Core Vocabulary
Did you know that 200-400 core words make up 80% of what we say everyday!
Core vocabulary words are a set of frequently used words that make up a significant portion of our daily communication. These words are versatile and can be used across various contexts. They include verbs, prepositions, conjunctions, articles, adjectives, and pronouns, but rarely nouns.
Some examples of core vocabulary words are: go, stop, turn, you, I, it, come, want, need and like.
These words are essential for building basic sentences and expressing a wide range of ideas and emotions. They are especially important in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems, which help non-verbal students communicate effectively.
We are focusing on one core vocabulary word each week as this can really help in building a strong foundation. We have started with the word “go” and have been using it when completing various activities and in different scenarios. Ideas for activities to do at home will be posted on Seesaw each week. Using the word “go” at home can be both fun and practical.
“Let’s go outside and play in the garden.”
“Go play with your toys.”
“I can see you can go high on the swing.”
Next week are core word will be "stop" and our final week of the term will be "turn."
