Seesaw Update - Messages for Families

Seesaw has updated its messages option and we wanted to share some information with you.

Messages in Seesaw allow communication with teachers that is private and quick to use. If you need to contact your child's class teacher, you can follow the steps on the document below to get you started.

School Reports via Seesaw

At Pītau-Allenvale we report on student progress and achievements via Seesaw.

There are many reasons why we introduced Seesaw Reporting at Allenvale:

  • It gives all students a voice.

  • It provides students with ownership.

  • It makes learning visible.

  • It provides whānau with real time reporting.

  • The reports are simple, yet powerful.

  • Reports are organised, documented and show development.

  • It builds strong communication between whānau, student and kura.

  • It is a digital document which allows students to access their own work.

  • It provides an opportunity to reflect and add comments.

Whānau can look for the blue reporting folder on a post. This identifies a reporting post compared to a celebration post in the Seesaw class. The teacher report statement will tell you about what your student has been learning, how they are progressing and what their next steps are.

All report comments will only be tagged to your student, which means that other classmates and parents cannot see these reporting posts.

Over the next few weeks, your student's teacher will be completing reporting comments. We urge you to log in to Seesaw and check your student's journal to see what they have been working on during the term.

This would be a great time for you to also leave a comment, letting your student know that you have seen the post in their journal and something that you like about it.

There are different ways that you can leave feedback. Clicking on the heart button shows your student that you have seen their work and liked it. We would love it if you also added a comment to the reporting post.

You can enter text by typing in the box, but did you know that you can also leave a voice comment? This is a great tool when you are busy and on the go - just click on the comment box then click the microphone to leave a voice comment.

Students always love reading and hearing the comments left on their Seesaw posts and many teachers share these weekly with their classes.

We look forward to seeing parents and caregivers engaging and commenting on student progress via Seesaw.
