New Principal for Pītau-Allenvale School

It is pleasing to announce the appointment of Janine Harrington as the new Principal of Pitau-Allenvale, commencing at the the start of Term 1 in 2025.

Whilst the process has taken longer than planned, we are very fortunate to appoint someone of Janine's calibre and passion for Special Needs education. Janine has spent 14 years at Halswell Residential College Te Otu Matua, being Principal for the majority of that time, and there is no doubt of the respect in which she is held by all members of the community, including families, staff and the children.

We look forward to Janine bringing her skills and attributes to Pitau Allenvale and building on the current strength of our school.

Janine Harrington

Janine has served as the Principal of Halswell Residential College (HRC) for 13 years. HRC supports neurodiverse and/or intellectually impaired students with complex and challenging needs. They range in age from 8 to 18 years. Janine is dedicated to working with individuals who have additional needs.

Prior to working at HRC, Janine was a southern regional manager leading specialist health and education teams at the Department of Corrections.

Janine is married and has two sons, Will (17) and Jake (27). Her family lives on a lifestyle block which gives her the chance to get her hands dirty (quite literally).

Although Janine will greatly miss the HRC community, she is excited about taking up the role of principal at Pitau Allenvale and contributing to the exceptional work being done by staff, students, and their families.
