Shared Reading is a collaborative learning experience.
This term 1, Hiwi students have explored reading a selection of stories inside and outside of the classroom. During our shared reading sessions our focus has been interaction and making connections.
Our afternoon outdoor ‘bean bag reading group’ with Taumanu, giving our students the opportunity to come together as a junior team. Beautifully demonstrating our school KORU values. Exploring wonder and joy, making a connection and building a shared love of reading.
Term 1, Hiwi students have enjoyed classical shared stories including: The Tiger Who Came To Tea, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and Eric Carle’s From Head to Toe.
The shared stories we have followed have included animal characters that have taken our students on adventures, created opportunities for interaction and continued to build connections with lots of smiles and laughter along the way!
Our students have gained an increased confidence in using their communication devices. It has been awesome to see students independently navigating to communicate their thoughts, ideas and share “I have something to say.”
Shared stories that have inspired our art and craft activities, proudly displayed around our Hiwi hub. Leading also into cross curricular subjects such as maths, science and cooking! Wonderfully showing our School Vision ‘Kia puaki te pitomata - ‘Let the potential be revealed.’
