Rebekah Carlsen — December 16, 2024
We have had our first full year at Tētēkura and it has been a great success.
We have been collaborating in all areas with Ferndale Te Ahu since Term 2 last year. Our students have been strengthening the new friendships they have made. This was evident at our school camp.
We do spend a lot of time out in the community doing a wide variety of activities. For work experience we go to Glenlothian Farm, Botanic Gardens, Graffiti removal, 0800 Hungry, Doggy Day Care, Community Public Health, Peppers and Novotel Hotels.
There are also regular visits to the public library, swimming pool, gym, boxing gym, supermarket and bussing to the malls (as well as other places).
We have a student run cafe here at school on Friday mornings. They bake, make coffee, hot chocolate, tea, smoothies and milk shakes. Students greet the clients (family, friends, school friends) taking orders, working out the cost, giving change and serving the food.
Each week students get to cook making a wide variety of easy meals following visual step-by-step recipes. Some students have started cooking these meals for their families once a week at home which is what it's all about.
We are always on the go with both students and staff off in all directions. It is busy but in a brilliant way. Students are happy to be experiencing many different activities here in Transition.
Everybody is looking forward to 2025.
We wish everyone all the best for a Merry Christmas and a happy new year!
