Yesterday Cate Desmond, our psychologist, ran a professionals sessions about supporting successful student transitions across the day.
Thanks to everyone that attended, including staff from 5 other kura across the takiwā / region.
Cate summarised a range of strategies that can support successful transitions:
To big a change
I don’t know where I am going / what I will have to do
I don’t know how long or how much work this will take
I am ready to move and you want me to sit!
I get distracted on the way
I got here but then you weren’t ready for me so I did something else
I like what I am doing now and I don’t want to leave
I am in the middle of a ritual and you want me to stop
I know what you want me to do but the activity or place we are going is too bright/noisy/busy/ messy
I know what you want me to do and it's hard
I know what you want me to do, its hard and I hate making mistakes
The slides from today's session can be seen here and are attached.
