Students at Tētēkura steeped outside their comfort zone at Living Springs Camp.
We are excited to share a recap of our recent school camp at Living Springs. The camp was a fantastic opportunity for our students to form friendships, learn the importance of teamwork, and most importantly, have fun!
Day 1:
We started with a stop at Victoria Park for morning tea where students could relax and ease in to the busy three full days to come. After this we ventured off and walked around the water front from Governors Bay to Allendale where we had lunch. Students enjoyed the scenery and cheered each other on at the finish line. After lunch we drove up the hill to Living Springs where we were greeted with a stunning view over the harbour. Students unpacked and got familiar with their living arrangements and settled in. Up next was swimming! Everyone enjoyed playing some fun games and competitions in the water. What a day! After a good nights rest we were ready for day two.
Day 2:
Up first was a mixture of a walking group and mini golf. Students choose which activity they wanted to be a part of and enjoyed a slower start to the morning. After an early morning tea the Farm Park was up next. Students enjoyed feeding the range of animals; goat, cows and sheep while waiting for their turn on the tractor tour. Students loved this and got to see the farm from a different perspective. Ka rawe, awesome! After delicious nachos for lunch we were off to Air Rifles and Archery. Students thoroughly enjoyed this activity, stepping outside their comfort zone, and many shared this as their highlight of the camp. Tino pai!
Our day ended with a refreshing swim in the pool, dinner and an amazing camp fire. The camp fire was a special activity where students could connect with each other, discuss their highlights of the trip and acknowledge those students whose last camp it will be as they are graduating at the end of the year. Students enjoyed roasting marshmallows to make smores all while enjoying the stunning view.
Day 3:
This morning students got to work cleaning and packing up their belongings. Then following morning tea students shared their strengths at the initiatives course where they had to problem solve a range of different and difficult activities. Students worked together as a team; communicating and problem solving together.
Ka pai tō mahi, great work everyone! All staff were very impressed with all students enthusiasm and motivation to participate in such a range of activities. Camp is a wonderful experience for students to gain memories and a range of skills outside the classroom. Also a fabulous way to finish of the year!
