Giving Students a Voice

Empowering students to communicate using visuals and AAC.

In Taumanu, we are always looking for ways to help students express themselves and fully engage in learning. We use visuals, core boards, and communication devices to help students express themselves and feel more involved in their learning. These tools make it easier for students to tell us what they like, ask for something they want, request more of an activity, or let us know when they are done.

Using visuals also helps our students become more independent and make choices, creating a classroom where everyone can communicate in their own way. Whether it's a visual for "swing" or a button to say "more," these tools make a big difference in helping our students feel understood, valued, and empowered everyday.

Take a look at our photos, showing how students in our hub use visuals and AAC to communicate throughout the school day.
