Kapa Haka

Pete Burgess —

Recently our kapa haka team participated in the South Canterbury Flava Festival. The team put in some serious mahi to prepare for it and represented Point Primary with mana

Paiaka Taha, Kiara Petzer, Alex Bolitho, Auroriah Smith, and Jackson Clelland made up our leadership team. Paiaka led the boys in a fierce haka that many spectators were impressed by. A special thanks to Mrs Frances-Rees for her support and to the parents who supported us by providing transport and helping with hair/moko art. Point Primary would also like to acknowledge the support we received from Whaea Brenda, Matua Hami and Matua Mike from Te Aitarakihi Marae-a-Iwi who twice volunteered their time to come out and work with our tamariki.

We paid a visit to perform at the kindergarten next door during te wiki o te reo Māori. Our little neighbours loved the performance, all wanted to join the group, and showed us their best pukana. We plan to visit again before the end of the year.

Our Kapa Haka team has made us all proud this term, they’ve been committed and willing learners who continuously exhibited our CARE values.
