Penny Harding —

During Matariki on Friday, June 20th, the school will be closed.

.Matariki is a special time in New Zealand when we celebrate the Māori New Year. Traditionally, it marks the appearance of the Matariki star cluster in the sky. This year, Matariki will fall on Friday, 20th of June. It's a time for reflection, renewal, and celebrating new beginnings.

During Matariki, we honor our ancestors, appreciate the natural world, and plan for the future. It's a time for communities to come together, share stories, and enjoy festivities. Many people gather to feast, watch fireworks, tell legends, and dance traditional dances.

Given the cultural significance of Matariki, schools will be closed on this day. It's a time to learn, connect, and celebrate the diverse heritage of New Zealand.

So, as we approach Matariki, take this opportunity to learn more about Māori culture, traditions, and the importance of this special time of year. Enjoy the celebrations, learn something new, and embrace the spirit of Matariki with an open heart and mind. Happy Matariki!
