A Message from Mr Shaw
Kia ora Parents / Caregivers
Its been great to welcome Harold and the Life Education van, along with educators—Rudi and Amy to school they have been with us throughout this week as well as next week. Their fun, engaging messages (and jokes!) are looked forward to by both the children and staff. Its been a timely visit this week coinciding with a few seasonal bugs affecting families. Alongside our own in-school sneeze-safe and hand-washing programmes, thank you for your support in keeping children home if they are unwell.
Tonight (Friday) we host our 1st Disco for the year, with the theme being 'Fluro'. Thank you to our Point Parent and Community Group for putting this together. They will be aided on the night by our Student Council.
Well done to all those students who competed with distinction at the recent South Canterbury inter-schools triathlon. We had outstanding results. Jack Kelly and Maia Crosbie both finishing 3rd in their respective races. We had all our teams finish in the top 2.
- Yr 7&8 boys - 1st,
- Yr 7&8 girls - 2nd,
- Yr 5&6 boys - 2nd
- Yr 5&6 girls - 2nd.
We wish the large squad heading to Friday’s inter-schools Swimming Champs all the very best! Go well!
The Teachers union NZEI, are continuing to be in discussion with the Government in relation to class sizes and resourcing.
Understaffing is a major issue in our kura and, primary and intermediate schools. Too many tamariki are not getting the attention they need to reach their full potential and too many are falling through the cracks. Understaffing means teachers are not free to teach, and principals are not free to lead their schools. Addressing this issue will require significant funding. To secure support from politicians to provide that funding, we need to demonstrate the support of parents, board members and the wider community.
Here is a video that better explains this:

Two weeks to go in the term we are looking forward to a great finish.
