Board of Trustees News

Board of Trustees —

The Board met on Tuesday 15 February, here's some key items discussed...

Two weeks ago the Board of Trustees held their first meeting for 2022. As part of annual business, Rowan Rabbidge was re-elected as Board Chair - thank you Rowan! This year is Board election year with elections postponed from the normal June/July period to September.

Amongst other matters the following key items were discussed at the meeting:

- Finances: the school recorded a provisional $30,000 deficit last year as the Board invested funds from reserves to provide additional teacher and teacher aide staffing across the school. This year the Board has also budgeted for a deficit because of reduced income from fundraising and the impact of the Covid pandemic.

- Property: projects are underway this year to re-carpet the library and areas of the Rangitata block. Alongside this the Waitaki block and Admin area will be re-roofed as the Ministry of Education has identified the current roof has reached end of life. Work is underway to scope a refurbishment in the Opihi block and toilet upgrade in the Blakemore Learning Hub.

A property / finance subcommittee has been established to review the school's financial position, particularly in light of significant school owned assets such as the Hall requiring maintenance.

- Curriculum: contingency planning was reviewed for teaching, learning and school staffing anticipating student and teacher sickness with Omicron.
