Board of Trustees News

Board of Trustees —

The Board met on Tuesday 13th September. Here is some key items that were discussed:

Last week the Board of Trustees held their sixth meeting for 2022. This was the first meeting for our newest Board members Deborah Jacobs and Khan Adams and our first meeting with a newly appointed Board Chair, Hayden Cartwright.  Our sincere thanks to Rowan Rabbidge who is remaining on the Board but stepping down as Board Chair after 3 years.

Amongst other matters the following key items were discussed at the meeting:

Enrolment Zone - We have capacity for out of zone enrolments next year. We will have two enrolment intakes for 2023 and will be offering up to 25 places across Yr 1-8.

Property - We are currently in the design stages for the upgrade of the BLH toilets and the Opihi block are are waiting on the preliminary drawings from the architects.

Grounds - We are going to be grassing the areas where  bushes were removed by the working bee.  Hayden Cartwright is organising a further working bee to grass over these areas and tidy them up.

PPPS Consultation Survey - The senior leadership team has met and discussed the feedback from the community consultation survey and are currently working on the areas involving “what can we do better”.

Rowan and Mark met with parents re: feedback from the survey and discussed what were the important themes from the feedback. Communication, Curriculum and Culture were the three themes from the discussion.

From the start of next year the school will be implementing a more streamlined communication pathway from the teachers and ensuring there is weekly communication.

Hall - Feedback from the community consultation was strongly in favour of keeping the hall and thought it was a valuable asset for the school. The Board of Trustees moved to agree to keep the Hall.  There will be further discussion in the coming months around what the priorities in the Hall are and how this will be funded.

MVHS/Opihi Proposed Enrolment Zones - We have received notification from the MOE that they are proposing for Mountainview High School & Opihi College to be zoned. This does not affect our school zoning directly but could be a significant issue for those that leave here.

We have sought feedback from parents via a survey and our meeting held on Monday 19th September, and will be discussing this further with the MOE and voicing our concerns and objections around this proposal by the response due date of 30th September.
