Changes to the traffic light system

The Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board —

The Government has announced changes to the traffic light system, including changes to My Vaccine Pass requirements and other vaccine mandates.

These changes signal a shift towards enabling people, businesses, whānau, and communities to manage the risk of COVID in an environment where, as a community, there are high rates of vaccination. New Zealand will remain in Red, until 4 April when the setting will be reviewed.

What does this mean for you?

From 11:59 pm on Monday 4 April, My Vaccine Passes will no longer be required as part of the COVID-19 Protection Framework (traffic light system).

Use will be voluntary and businesses are encouraged to revisit any policies they have in place around vaccination requirements.

No more QR scanning

Businesses no longer need to maintain records of site visits, for COVID purposes. This means that businesses may take down QR code posters as they are no longer a requirement.

Isolation requirements

The testing and isolation requirements remain the same. The isolation period for both positive cases and household contacts is 7 days. If you have symptoms or someone in your household tests positive, isolate and get tested. Employers should not ask workers to return to work earlier, unless they are operating in a bubble of one, or are critical workers under the close contact exemption scheme.

Close Contact Exemption Scheme and Bubble of One

There are no changes for the close contact exemption scheme, or bubble of one, which allows household contacts to return to work under certain circumstances. More information about the pathways available for household contacts to return to work is available on business.govt.nz.

More details are available on the COVID-19 Website.
