Super Eight Cultural Festival – Visual Art 🎨

PNBHS —

The Super Eight Cultural Festival took place in week 3 of this term and was held in Rotorua. The Visual Art competition consisted of one junior artwork and one senior artwork from each Super Eight school.

Palmerston North Boy's High School are pleased to announce that we placed 1st in the Senior category with a drawing by Year 12 student Atta Rahim and 3rd in the Junior category with a mixed media artwork by Year 10 student Sebastian Bambry; an outstanding achievement by both students given the calibre of the work on display.

Atta Rahim: This drawing is of a heron in its natural environment as it gracefully catches a fish for a meal. The heron symbolises wisdom, patience, independence and harmonious balance with the natural world.

Sebastian Bambry: This artwork shows how mixed identities come together in Aotearoa. It uses subject matter like landscapes, text, Pasifika patterns, and modern Māori tattoo designs. Sebastian combined these elements with values and interests that are important to him and his sense of belonging here.
