Year 10 English Language Tuition - 10ELT

This is a full-year course that develops reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. This is recommended for students who have English as a second language and would like extra assistance in English.

Year 10 English Enrichment - 10EXE

This is a half-year course that develops fundamental literacy skills. EXE is recommended for students who wish to develop their confidence and competence in English.

Year 10 English - 10ENX 

This is a full-year core subject based on the New Zealand Curriculum. Students learn and apply a range of reading, writing and speaking skills to written, visual, and oral texts.

Level One English Language Tuition - 11ELT

The content of the course is needs-based and is designed once the students are confirmed. There is a Level 1 NCEA English course and, if needed, a second programme incorporating Unit Standards that are designed to be needs-based. 

Please note: English Language Tuition is assessed using English Achievement Standards.

Level One English - 11ENX

English is a compulsory core subject for all Year 11 students.

Assessment will consist of one NCEA internal assessment and one external assessment.

Level Two Classical Studies - 12CLA

Classical Studies at Level 2 provides an in-depth exploration of the history, literature, art and architecture of the ancient world. Included in the course outline is a study of Athenian Democracy, the Greco-Persian Wars (Marathon, Thermopylae, Salamis and Platea), Herodotus (The Histories), the film 300, art and architecture of Pompeii and Herculaneum, and a text of Sophocles or Juvenal.

This course offers 18 credits in total: 10 internally, 8 externally
Prerequisites: 7 credits in Level 1 English or 4 credits in Level 1 Classical Studies

Level Two English Language Tuition - 12ELT

The course involves the reading of literary and visual texts as well as speaking. Total number of internally assessed credits in this course: 11. Total number of externally assessed credits in this course: 8. Total number of credits in this course: 19.

Level Two English - 12ENL

The course involves the reading of and writing about literary and visual texts completed at a pace suitable for the needs of the students.

Level Two Prerequisites: Less than 10 credits in Level 1 English

Level Two English - 12ENX

The course involves response to written and visual texts as well as researching and/or analysis of texts.

Level Two Media Studies - 12MST

This is an interesting and engaging subject. The course is academically focused and based around the theme of ‘Audience’. Why do producers need to know their audience, what they want and how to appeal to them? We look at product case studies, how people are represented in the media, how media forms have changed over time as well as students scripting and undertaking their own media production. There are two externally examined and three internally assessed Achievement Standards offered. Students are expected to work at Level 7 of the New Zealand Curriculum.

Level Three Classical Studies - 13CLA

Classical Studies at Level 3 provides an in-depth analysis of the history, literature, art and architecture of classical Greece and Rome. Included in the course outline is a study of either the Art and Architecture of Ancient Rome or Greek vases, Virgil's The Aeneid, and the Historical Figure of either Augustus Caesar or Alexander the Great.

This course offers 24 credits in total: up to 12 internally (one is an optional internal), 12 externally.
Prerequisites: 11 credits in Level 2 English or 12 credits in Level 2 Classical Studies.

The course is designed to provide a pathway to university. Level 2 Literacy is essential.

Level Three Media Studies - 13MST

This is an interesting and engaging subject. The course is academically focused and based around the theme of ‘Society’. How does the media interact with, relate to and influence society? We look at an entire media industry, the relationship between media and society along with the influence that can occur, how audiences read and interpret texts in different ways as well as students planning and creating their own short documentary film. There are two externally examined and three internally assessed Achievement Standards offered. Students are expected to work at Level 8 of the curriculum.
