Junior Musical Theatre (JMT)
Bursting to life in The Little Theatre from the last Sunday of the holidays, JMT presents excerpts from Newsies – ironically a forerunner to the 2025 Senior Production! This group as shown exceptional enthusiasm throughout the year and we look forward to an engaging show of around 45 minutes. The photo below shows the JMT cast who performed recently at the MPACS competition in which they placed 3rd in their class.
Newsies is based on the true story of the 1898-99 strike by paper boys and girls in New York City. It was in response to an attempt by the newspaper moguls to lower the price they paid for distribution. At the time, industry in NYC relied heavily on child labour and other groups joined the protest. The City came to a stop and forced Pulitzer and Hearst and others to back down. The story has been fleshed out significantly to make a highly engaging show!

Our wonderful Marketing Manager, Rachel Wenham, has drawn generous sponsorship from a variety of sources in recent years. Thanks to their generosity, we have been able to offer tertiary Scholarships to alumni who have successfully completed at least one year in a tertiary qualification, predominantly based in the Performing Arts. They are currently valued at $550 but this is dependent on our financial status. Previous recipients are Lily Bourne, Katie Atkins, Trent Hooper and Aylin Atalay.
Having watched his fabulous Whitireia performance in Urinetown recently, we are delighted to announce RV Quijano (The Addams Family 2019) is our next winner. RV had an outstanding first year in 2023, topping his class with almost entirely Excellence grades. Ka rawe!
It is a great pleasure to be able to provide some small assistance to those of our alumni who make the bold step to pursue careers in Performing Arts.

We were very proud to have 27 current and former Company members onstage and behind the scenes for the recent Act 3 Productions season of Kinky Boots. We are delighted to be a major contributor to the local theatre scene. Heading the list was Lindsay Yeo in the co-lead role of Charlie. Lindsay showed outstanding skill in bringing this challenging and dynamic role to life and we are very lucky to have him on board as the Senior Production Music Director.
We’re proud of all our alumni and delighted how many of them are currently in high profile positions in broadcasting and entertainment, proving the life-skills value of the Performing Arts.
