David Whale
On Sunday the 5th of February Old Boy David Wale passed away in Wanaka after a long illness. A memorial service will be held in Wellington where he lived for over 40 years before retirement. David Wale (1958) attended school for his 6th form year, after 3 years at Rangitikei College in Marton. He was appointed a College House prefect and played rugby for the 2nd XV and cricket for the 2nd XI.After school David attended Victoria University, and continued his rugby career with St Pats Old Boys, including several games for Wellington B. He then started work with an accountancy firm in his parents home town of Gisborne, playing rugby for Poverty Bay from 1964 to 1966 (including against the 1965 Springboks).Subsequently in 1970, David moved back to Wellington and joined the stockbroking firm of RAJarden & Co where he remained for the rest of his career. His stockbroking career included 2 years as Chairman of the NZ Stock Exchange.In 1995 David was awarded the CBE for services to business and the community.
