A golden weekend for Palmy Boys' at NZSSAA Track & Field Championships
It was a great weekend for the Palmy Boys' team competing at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletic Championships at the Tauranga Domain over the weekend.
Congratulations to Braxton Kauri and Forbes Kennedy for their Individual titles, while PNBHS teams won both the junior and senior 4 x 100m relays - the first time this feat has been achieved. The team of ten, competed with distinction to gain the following outstanding results:
Junior U16
Braxton Kauri | 1st 300m hurdles - 40.2secs – a personal best and a new school record
Forbes Kennedy | 1st Long Jump – 6m 54cm – a personal best 200m – 23.4secs – a personal best
Senior
Greg Austin | 400m semi-finalist - 53.2secs – a personal best
Dirki Botha | 400m semi-finalist - 51.2secs – a personal best
Dylan Calder | 100m and 200m semi-finalist
Zack Roberts | 100m semi-finalist – 12.2secs – a personal best
Relays
Junior U16 | 1st 4x100m in a close finish – 45.30 secs. An outstanding team performance with Dylan Calder, Forbes Kennedy, Braxton Kauri and Zack Roberts producing great lap changes.
Senior | 1st 4x100m in a very close finish – 44.06secs. Outstanding last two legs from Dirki Botha and Angus Lyver, other team members were Aden Porritt and Caleb Evans. See the video above for the footage.
4x400m | 6th- 3mins 34sec – gutsy team performance. Team members were Greg Austin, Aden Porritt, Braxton Kauri and Dirki Botha.
Senior Boys’ 6 km Road Race | A field of 73 started with: Jamie Dennis placing 40th, Sam Stichbury placing 20th
Congratulations to Angus Lyver, who has been selected in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics team. Angus competed with distinction over the weekend at the NZSSAA Championships, placing 2nd in the Long Jump (6m 80cm – 4cm behind the winner), 6th in the Javelin (48cm behind the winner) and 3rd in the 200m (in a time of 22.5secs) as well as running an outstanding leg as part of the title-winning senior boys 4 x 100m relay team.
It is very safe to say Mr Doyle is very proud of the team for their efforts in the weekend.
