Term 2, Week 3: Monday 16 - Sunday 22 May

PNBHS —

The annual PNBHS Anzac Service is one of the most important formal occasions in our school calendar.  At our service, we remember the sacrifices made by 203 Old Boys of Palmerston North Boys' High School who lost their lives in World War One (70 Old Boys killed), World War Two (132 Old Boys and one staff member killed) and the Falklands War (one Old Boy killed).  Many of these young men were barely out of school and the regular loss of life, men who would have been known to all of the staff and many of the students of the school, took a significant toll at the time and in the subsequent years.

Far from glorifying war, as is sometimes a criticism made of commemoration services, the purpose is to keep in our minds the horrific toll of war in the hope that we might learn from history.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
E kore rātou e kaumātuatia
Pēnei i a tātou kua mahue nei
E kore hoki rātou e ngoikore
Ahakoa pehea i ngā āhuatanga o te wā
I te hekenga atu o te rā
Tae noa ki te aranga mai i te ata
Ka maumahara tonu tātou ki a rātou"

PNBHS Road Race

After last week's very successful Cross Country it was fantastic to be able to hold another large scale school event today, the annual Road Race.  Results and photographs from the event will be shared in the coming days.

Events such as the Cross Country, Anzac Service and Road Race provide opportunities for all young men to engage in school life and in doing so develop their links and sense of belonging with Palmy Boys'.  All young men are encouraged to fully involve themselves in school life and in doing so further cement their place in the PNBHS Brotherhood.

Parent-Teacher Interviews - Monday, May 16

A reminder that Monday, May 16 is scheduled as a day for all students to learn from home.  This is to enable Parent-Teacher Interviews to take place.  Students will have work set in advance by their teachers.

Teacher Only Day - Thursday, May 19

Next Thursday, May 19, secondary schools throughout Palmerston North will be closed for a planned Teacher Only Day.  This day is to provide time for schools to continue their preparations for changes to NCEA assessment which will be implemented in the coming years.  Palmerston North Boys' High School will be closed on this day.
