Junior A Canoe Polo Team Win Silver

PNBHS —

In the last weekend of the recent school holidays, the Senior A and Junior A teams headed off to the secondary schools' national championship in Hastings.

After some close fought games the Senior A team finished 4th in the division one senior open competition and Stefan van Uffelen and Damon Dickons were both selected in the Tournament Team.

Finishing second in the regional competition held back in March saw the Junior A team entered into Division One of the Junior National competition.

The team started their campaign winning convincingly against New Plymouth Boys', Karamu High Hchool (7-1), St John's College (5-2) and St Peter's College (3-5). Losing to the Feilding High School Junior team (1-6) resulted in the team finishing second after pool games.

In the final the team faced the Feilding High School junior team again. This was certainly not one way traffic! With a ‘nothing to lose’ attitude, the boys fought with vigour and determination keeping the score even. Full-field defensive presses backed up with outstanding goalkeeping saw the team jostling for the win right up to the final whistle. The final score being a 2:1 loss to the Fielding team. Certainly an improvement on the previous pool game result.

A special thank you must go the numerous hours of training performed by the coaches Harry Dickons and Paul Dickons for the junior team.

Junior Team members:

Tom Hawinkels, Liam McEwan, Ben Pettersson, Hunter Easton, Alec Ross and Jonothan Orr
