In Term 3, Palmerston North Boys’ High School was contacted by the manager of Neighbourhood Support Palmerston North. One of their projects is called ‘Seats in Streets’, placing seats in areas where people can connect and engage with each other. The seats are even long enough to comply with COVID spacing if needed. The idea is to have the community take ownership of these seats by decorating them.
The Art Department was excited by the opportunity to be involved in this project and offered the challenge to our Level 3 Top in Painting student, Tyler Fleming. After hours of planning, preparation and painting, the chair is complete! The location of the chair is yet to be decided, but Tyler thinks that somewhere along the river where he goes running might be a good idea.
One of our junior art classes will also participate in this project as a collaborative artwork.
