Old Boy Max Currie Returns to Palmerston North for Screening of Rūrangi

Old Boy Max Currie is a gay writer, director and producer of film and television, best known for writing Shortland Street for over five years. This Friday 26 March he returns to Palmerston North for a public screening of his latest, award-winning feature film, Rūrangi, at Te Manawa, the Museum of Art, Science and Heritage.

Rūrangi is about a young transgender man who returns home to his small-town dairy community to reconnect with his friends and family. Having taken out the top prize for Best Feature at Frameline 2020 and just this month been acquired by US streaming giant Hulu, Rūrangi has been praised around the world for its bravura acting, cinematic depictions of New Zealand - and championing of the gender diverse community both behind and in front of the camera.
