North Island Secondary Schools Road Cycling Championships

Date: Saturday 1 July - Sunday 2 July

The North Island Road Cycling Championship took place over a two-day event, with challenging weather conditions for the riders.

Saturday morning commenced with the team time trial, covering a 16km course. In the Under 16 Boys division, our Junior A Team consisting of Zachary Woollett, Mitchell Wolland, Filip Martin, and Flynn Balfour secured an impressive 4th place. Additionally, our Junior B Team finished 17th. Moving on to the Senior Boys division, our Senior A team, comprising Wilson Hannon, Zachary Hintz, Josh Mulcahy, Jake Rayner, and Ben Petch, finished just 1 second off the 3rd place, securing 4th place. Our Senior B team finished 11th in the same division.

Saturday afternoon witnessed the Road Races, which were conducted under challenging conditions with rain and strong winds. Despite the harsh weather, our riders displayed great determination and competitive spirit. Notable performances include Leo Webb, who achieved a commendable 12th place in the Under 14 Race. In the Under 15 Race, Filip Martin, battling illness throughout the weekend, secured an impressive 5th place. Flynn Balfour finished 12th, Mitchell Wolland claimed 16th place, and Oliver Lean secured 33rd place in the same category. Zachary Woollett achieved a commendable 13th place in the Under 16 Race. Moving on to the Under 17 Race, Logan Mulcahy secured 13th place, Cody Clark finished 14th, Jacob Lean finished 18th, and Leighton Riley secured 34th place. In the Under 20 Race, Wilson Hannon achieved an impressive 5th place. Josh Mulcahy finished 14th, Jake Rayner secured 18th place, and Zachary Hintz achieved 19th place.

On Sunday, the riders participated in the criterium race. In the Under 14 B Grade Race, Max Calder-Kerr secured an impressive 1st place. Leo Webb achieved a commendable 6th place in the Under 14 A Grade. Mitchell Wolland finished 4th in the Under 15 B Grade, with Oliver Lean securing 13th place. Filip Martin 4th place in the Under 15 A Grade. In the Under 17 B Grade, Leighton Riley secured an impressive 2nd place, while Lucas Rusk finished 15th. Moving on to the Under 17 A Grade, Jacob Lean achieved 14th place, Cody Clark secured 17th place, and Logan Mulcahy finished 18th. In the highly competitive Under 20 A Grade, Wilson Hannon displayed exceptional determination and racing awareness, securing a remarkable 1st place.

North Island and New Zealand Secondary Schools Track Championship

Date: Tuesday 4 July and Wednesday 5 July

The North Island and New Zealand Track Championships were held over two days. Our school was represented by a small team of four riders. Each rider competed in the Omnium Event, which consisted of four events: Scratch Race 1500m, Scratch Race 515m, Keirin, and Tempo Points Race.

In the Under 20 Boys North Island Division, Wilson Hannon secured an impressive 1st place, with Zachary Hintz finishing in the 17th position. In the Under 20 Boys National Division, Wilson Hannon achieved a commendable 3rd place, while Zachary Hintz secured the 13th position. In the Under 17 Boys North Island Division, Leighton Riley displayed great skill, securing an impressive 6th place. Similarly, in the Under 17 Boys National Division, Leighton Riley achieved an 8th-place finish. In the Under 16 Boys North Island Division, Zachery Woollett showcased his talent, securing a commendable 3rd place. In the Under 16 Boys National Division, Zachery Woollett achieved 4th place.

North Island Secondary Schools Cyclocross Championships

Date: Saturday 15 July - Wanganui

The North Island Secondary School Cyclocross Championships took place in Wanganui. Our school's participation resulted in commendable performances across different divisions. In the Under 13 Division, Leo Webb secured an outstanding 1st place, while Max Calder-Kerr achieved an impressive 2nd place. In the Under 14 Division, Archie Amon finished 4th, displaying commendable effort and skill.
