2nd XV v Gisborne BHS - Saturday 22 August

PNBHS —

The 2nd XV welcomed Gisborne Boys' High School, eager to resume their Super Eight campaign after the postponement following the Level 2 announcement last week. A win was required to maintain their chances in the Super Eight campaign and so the boys were looking for a positive performance.

The game started well with some good play creating space for Sam Coles who finished expertly and the 2nd XV were ahead. Gisborne hit back almost immediately with a penalty before the 2nd XV, who were making errors, allowed a soft try and found themselves 10-5 down. They responded well with the forwards taking the game to the opposition and they were rewarded with a try off a catch and drive lineout through Charlie Justice, before a break from Kalis Mason saw Anitoni Metui scoot over for a 15-10 lead at the break.

The second half started well as an error was forced and after a good carry from Brody Zander, Javahn Stevenson crashed over to extend the lead. Gisborne rallied and scored a try of their own before the 2nd XV took control. First Kalis Mason barrelled over after some good phases and then Kodie Albert-Papuni finished well after some good attack. From a lineout, the 2nd XV strung together some good phases and Nasi Manu scored in the corner. The 2nd XV continued to attack and after a good charge from Cody Borlase, quick hands from Tremaine Makoare put Jack Gordon over for the final score.
