On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the guns on the Western Front fell silent as the armistice to end the First World War came into effect.  This was marked at a civic ceremony in Palmerston North, with Year 12 student John Hopcroft delivering the youth address.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them."
