Clay target team take out narrow season victory

PNBHS —

PNBHS 'A' team win by a seven point victory.

The lower North Island clay target shooting circuit concluded recently, with the PNBHS ‘A’ team taking out a rather narrow seven-point victory. This series involved schools from the lower half of the North Island - including regions such as Manawatu, Wellington, Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay. With the interruptions due to Covid-19 this series was shot over five events, comprising team totals of 2,500 points.

There were at least eight schools represented at each shoot, with some having ‘B’ or development teams attending - meaning there were around 13 teams in total. All season PNBHS and Lindisfarne College set the tone - with each school having two victories a piece heading into the finals. At no point were they ever more than about 10 points apart. Representative of our true ‘team of ten’ mentality, no fewer than eight different young men represented our ‘A’ team throughout the season. Our ‘B’ team often headed off many ‘A’ teams from other schools and finished comfortably in the top half of the table.

On an individual level squad captain, Greg Wood placed 1st for the Points Score discipline and 2nd for Single Barrell. Year 9 shooter Ollie Duncan won the Junior

(Year 9 / 10 ) category, while we had many young men in contention for discipline awards. Of the 65+ shooters who took part eight of our young men ranked in the top 20 with four in the top ten.

A huge vote of thanks must go to the parent group and their young men for the culture they have developed this year. To Mr Gordon MacPhee for his coaching expertise and to the various sponsors and suppliers who make this sport possible, we also say a heart felt thanks for your contribution.

Now we look forward to the national championships, which will take part in regions, at the start of the September holidays.
