Super Eight Badminton

PNBHS —

The Senior A Badminton team competed in the annual Super Eight Competition on 24th and 25th of June in New Plymouth. The tournament was hard-fought and, although we ultimately did not come out on top, it was a great experience for every player.

After arriving on the Wednesday and enjoying New Plymouth’s wonderful attractions, from Dawson Falls to Pukekura Park, the team were well-prepared for the trials ahead.

Our first tie was against Hastings Boys’ High School, which we won 5-1. We won our second tie against Napier Boys’ High School 6-0. Our last tie of the first day was against Tauranga Boys' College. A nail-biter from start to finish, the tie consisted of some great singles and doubles matches. Palmerston North Boys’ High School prevailed, however, winning the tie 4-2.

On the final day, we first played New Plymouth Boys' High School and won 6-0. Consequently, the final match acted as the decider. Against a young, strong Hamilton Boys’ High School, we lost 5-1. Nonetheless, every match provided the opportunity to play against high-level players and allowed us to enhance our skills.

On behalf of the team, thank you to our coach Mr. Ong for the ongoing support he provides badminton at Boys’ High and his assistance during this year’s Super Eight competition.
