Squash Success and New Zealand Selection for Brodie Bennett 🥈
Congratulations to Year 10 student Brodie Bennett who won silver in the North Island Junior Squash Championships in the under 17s boy's competition. This is a superb achievement as Brodie has only recently turned 15 so was playing against older opponents.
The Squash Central report noted "As predicted the Under 17 boys event was hotly contested and the two locals Brodie Bennett and Maximus Mathews met up in the semi-final with a predicted epic battle, the boys didn't disappoint giving the large crowd a huge five-setter going long in the fifth. Bennett proved to have the better endurance on the day however, and took the win over an exhausted Mathews claiming his spot in the final against the Wellington talent of Oliver Dunbar. Bennett played extremely well against the much higher graded Dunbar and managed to claim one game losing in a tight four."
Brodie's fantastic form has continued- and this saw his selection as the number one player in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Junior team to compete in Australia later this month. Brodie was presented with his New Zealand Secondary Schools Squash Team badge at assembly recently.
