Year 9 Reading Challenge
At a recent assembly, presentations were made to young men who had earned bronze, silver and gold awards in the Year 9 Reading Challenge.
Developing good literacy skills is essential for educational progress and achievement in NCEA qualifications and reading is a foundational component of this. The Year 9 Reading Challenge encourages and rewards young men for reading, hopefully, a step towards developing a lifelong habit.
As young men finish each book during the year, they had the opportunity to talk to their English teacher or one of the librarians to have it recorded. Congratulations to:
• 15 books read and logged = Bronze Award
Noah Mcgonigle-Cate - 15
Harry Pearson - 15
Jacob Lahina - 15
Jonty Brimelow - 17
Blake Massicks - 23
• 30 books read and logged = Silver Award
Rian MacDonald - 42
• 60 books read and logged = Gold Award
Jayden Milbank - 60

As well as receiving their certificates at assembly, these young men also had morning tea with the Rector. Thanks to PNBHS Librarian Mrs. Langley for her organisation of the Year 9 Reading Challenge.
